SMARTRAIL Workshop held at CETRA conference on 7th May 2012

A SMARTRAIL workshop took place in  Dubrovnik on 7th May 2012 within the framework of the CETRA Conference on Road and Rail Infrastructure. During the conference and the workshop, discussions were held with about 70 experts of 30 different companies dealing with infrastructure. Within the workshop itself, a selected number of experts joined the discussion.

The aim of this first workshop was to identify together with experts, especially from the region (CEEC and SEE) and SMARTRAIL partners, the special requirements, needs, constraints and priorities in the area of the project. Common topics/projects according to infrastructure manager (IM) needs will be defined and further developed within the framework of the project or in future projects. The workshop was based on the evaluation of results of a questionnaire with a special focus on the region. The feedback gives a comprehensive overview on priorities and first results, e.g. on embedded sensors and inspection technologies.

The SMARTRAIL Work Package leaders provided comments and additions to the spreadsheet developed according to the IM answers on the questionnaire, including potential solutions to the needs being the subject of further analysis and R&I or needing adaptive measures (initial progress and experienced R&I).

The SMARTRAIL partners realise that they are on the right path to answering the real requirements of Rail Infrastructure managers. Additonally the project identified research topics for the future. For more information, download the presentations here or from Project Place.
